thesleepingshaman.com review by Cyrill:
"There’s rarely an album in my collection getting rotation as heavy as the first The Moon Mistress full-length has in the past month or so. Since I’ve been following the band for quite a while now, it was definitely one of the most anticipated releases of the year for me, which also means I can’t be a truly impartial judge for it – but on the other hand, who would suffer from disappointment more than a loyal devotee who expects nothing but the stunning grandeur from the subject of admiration? Now we have sorted that out (kinda), let’s get to the business.

Hailing from the citadel of the Evil Empire, The Moon Mistress borrows from the bleak industrial landscapes, ancient orgiastic rituals, visions of Kali-Yuga approaching and the flames of eternal damnation reflected in the blind stare of hallucinating narcomaniac to yield the rotten fruit of raw and twisted doom metal with primitive aesthetics and lo-fi approach to the sound production. Combining that creeping snail speed grooves with brooding guitar leads that are more likely supposed to shake your mind loose than represent some actual melody, strengthened with the blistering live performance has become their trademark on the local scene.

As time went by, the band introduced new songs to the audience showing the hint of variety among the wastelands of spiritual death with more fast-paced and at times a lot angrier sound, while the early songs have been transformed and rearranged in concordance with an actual song writing intent. Last April the trio entered Red Gates chamber to record almost an hour of “Silent Voice Inside” which was mastered and produced completely on their own over the next few months. After discussing various record deal issues, it was decided to release the album on the band’s drummer Mitya’s own label, Pestis Insaniae Records, completing hand-crafted independent art concept.

The front cover shot in red scale is full of raw energy behind the static picture bringing to mind images from Ramesses’ “Possessed By The Rise Of Magik” or even Nirvana’s “Bleach” and represents what the band is about in a truly honest way. Sound-wise, compared to the demo and “Obsessed By Cursed Wastelands” split, The Moon Mistress goes much lower, incorporating a very thick and solid bass driven sound. The opening section starting with droning feedback eventually growing into a kind of tribal percussion sets the listener in the right mood for the deeper experience as “Cremation Meditation” kicks in with the heavy treads of groundbreaking, pummeling and clear vocals that evolve into bursts of screaming over crushing barbarian riffing.

Slow down, now that you have your consciousness burnt down in the purifying funeral pyre, let the shadows crawl into your mind with “The Wicker Man” twisted tones. The song is distinctive, if not definitive for the band’s earlier sound with its sick guitar leads coming from some really demented dimensions far beyond rational mind’s capacity of apprehension.

Fourth track, “Cease To Exist” is probably the fastest on this CD, rough, stripped-down rocking with catchy refrain bringing to mind some old Pentagram (or is it just me?) which closes with the darker mid-paced part. Slow down once more, this time for leisurely chanting of “Invocation To Hecate” ornamented with the sort of oriental melodic pattern which seems to have become pretty common to the band lately.

Second half of the album opens with the short interlude resembling the opening tune with tribal drumming and amplifier worship maintaining atmosphere and ambience while “Samsara” takes over with the swirling wah-bass attack and full force bludgeoning drums.

Both “Silent Voice Inside” and “The Moon Mistress” are somehow typical for the band and showcases what they are best at: slow, heavy doom metal, inspired by and dedicated to the Divine Mother. With a running time of sixty three minutes, The Moon Mistress manages to captivate the listener throughout the entire listen. It seems natural to come to the conclusion that the band has excelled in their style of doom metal which is carefully documented on “Silent Voice Inside”. Honestly I can’t imagine a better way to spend an hour (or two)."

metal-archives.com review by mad_submarine:
"If you have come across this band, it probably means that you're into doom metal and wondered whether to check these guys or not. The answer is immediate YES! So now, the reasons.

The Moon Mistress are original. They might have not discovered the moon with this album, but each song is different from the other and "Silent Voice Inside" flows perfectly. These guys have overcome the problem that many young bands in this genre have and that's repetitiveness and the lack of real emotions. This is an example of how new "old school-sounding" doom metal bands should play.

Another reason why this album kicks ass is that all the instruments are in harmony. You have cool drums, a cool guitar sound, perfect bass, and flawlessly-fitting vocals. Some other bands I've heard recently had this problem: an amazing guitar player, but the drummer sucks so much you can't fully enjoy the record, or all the instruments kick ass, but the vocals are damn fucked. There's nothing of that sort here. You have Electric Wizard-like riffs, great melodies, slowness that never gets boring, and distant HIGH as a kite vocals. So now if you wonder what perfect doom metal is, go listen to "The Wicker man". At 10:27, it's the crushing trip to the coolest of universes. First it starts slowly and then breaks off. A great song that doesn't get boring for a second. Oh yes, my first thought was "wtf, Hellhammer meets The Wizard". Guess how cool that is.

What else can I say? The best thing is this record won't bore you. I spun it 4 times and it sounded better and better and I bet it will keep sounding even more and more awesome. PURE music sex."

German vanbauseneick.de/krautnick/ review by Matthias Bosenick:

Dutch carrysnewundergroundmusic.blogspot.com review by Carry Munter:

Italian arlequins.it review by Giovanni Carta:

seaoftranquility.org review by Jon Neudorf:
"Russian doom metal band The Moon Mistress formed around 2009 and released their debut album titled Silent Voice Inside in 2012. A few years later the band changed their name to Dekonstruktor and have subsequently released a few albums, their latest in 2020, but I have not had the pleasure of hearing.

Okay, back to Silent Voice Inside which has been re-released on the Addicted Label with two bonus tracks. What will hit you immediately are the massive guitar riffs, as deep and doomy as you will ever hear. This is a pure all and out doom fest, very heavy distortion and fuzz, sometimes having an almost machine-like feel. The distant vocals are also superb, matched perfectly with what the band does musically, only adding to the band’s creepy and unsettling atmosphere. The huge sludge of “Cremation Meditation” is a heavy and powerful trip into darkness with some pretty cool rhythmic change-ups as the song progresses. Creepy drones and a huge burst of mechanical-like fuzz gives “The Wicker Man” a palpable intensity. The song begins at a snail’s pace, letting the guitar have maximum impact. Eventually, the soundscape gets weirder and more chaotic, making this music anything but one dimensional. An intro of feedback followed by a galloping guitar riff and monotone yet compelling lead vocals highlights the catchy “Cease To Exist” and in the near twelve minute “Invocation To Hecate”, the huge slabs of slowly burning guitar will surely nestle into your brain. The vocals, sounding far off in another place, serve to heighten the band’s spooky intent. I like how the band extends a few of these tunes, creating a dystopian-like wasteland with just guitars, bass, and drums.

There is a reason why this album has been given a new lease on life. It’s damn good and comes highly recommended to doom music fans everywhere."

thesoundprojector.com review by Ed Pinsent:
"Metal fans will also enjoy The Moon Mistress, whose Silent Voice Inside (NONAME666 747) plainly owes a huge debt to Black Sabbath – the guitar sound, the rhythms, the remorseless riffing, and even the vocals bear no small resemblance to the best work of The Sabs. This is the only album made by the trio of Garish Cyborg, Memphis, and Mitya DHS, and it originally came out in 2012 on the Pestis Insaniae label. Along with the usual deathly and bloodthirsty tropes, plenty of supernatural and semi-satanic themes on songs like ‘Cremation Meditation’, ‘Cease To Exist’, ‘Invocation to Hecate’ and ‘The Wicker Man’. I’m finding this item one of the more enjoyable records in today’s batch – the band have a real attack and focus, serving crushing heaviness with a good deal of conviction and strength and economy, and are preferable to latterday Sabs copyists like Cathedral or Electric Wizard, even. This CD version includes two bonus cuts ‘Heavy Sun’ and ‘Mindlock’ not present on the original album."

houseofprog.com review by Kev Rowland:
"Formed in 2009 as The Moon Mistress, this Moscow trio changed their name in 2014 to Destruktor, but the line-up has been consistent throughout, with Garish (guitar, vocals), Memphis (bass) and Mitya DHS (drums). This 2012 album was their debut full-length and is now available through no name. The lyrics are in English, while the musical style is very much stoner/doom, with everything that implies. Recorded in April 2011, there is a rough and ready rawness to this which makes me think back to the music coming out of the NWOBHM period in the late Seventies/early 80’s. It does not contain the polish of many of the doom bands who came later, but instead makes one think of the tape trading times when music was being copied on cassette and passed around fans.

In that manner it has a lot in common with the Scandinavian Black Metal scene of the early 90’s, and this album has attained very high reviews from those who have come across it. No name continue to be involved with very interesting releases out of Russia and surrounding countries, and I can see why this is revered so highly, as there is a naïve brutality to it which takes it to a different level. The repeated riffs are almost hypnotic at times, and the trio are tight, producing stoner which at times picks up pace such as on “Cease To Exist” which has been heavily influenced by Sabbath and is a load of fun. Fans of the genre would do well to seek this out, which as I write is available through Bandcamp for the princely sum of just €5 EUR so why not give it a listen?

Rating: 8/10"
